Ningbo, Zhejiang – Wanhua is to raise its MDI and HDI capacity in two projects at its plant in Ningbo. The projects being assessed for environmental impact.
The first is an existing two-phase MDI expansion which is being modified. This will increase capacity in the first phase from 400kT/year to 600kT/year. The second phase will increase from 800kT/year to 1.2MT/year. In total Wanhua is planning to spend CNY941m ($145m) on these investments, according to an environmental impact report.
IN a separate project, the company is planning to spend CNY3.2bn to build a new 280kT/year modified MDI capacity and 50kT/year for HDI at Ningbo.
When the projects go into operation, the Ningbo will have 1.8mT/year for MDI, 300kT/year for modified MDI capacity and 100kT/year for HDI, said Wanhua.
The projects were first announced in 2019. At that time, they had CNY 3.2bn investment and only included 300kT/year additional MDI capacity and 50kT/year HDI capacity.
The facilities were originally scheduled to start construction in July 2020 and come on stream in March 2023.
