Johor, Malaysia - Wansern Foam Industry Sdn Bhd, a supplier of polyurethane slabstock foam, has begun commercial production of a line of palm oil-based polyols for the production of flexible slabstock and viscoelastic foams based on its in-house polyol and polyurethane technology, the company said recently.
According to Wansern, a series of tests showed that its polyol products offer "high renewable-based content" as determined according to ASTM-D6866 by BETA, USA. The foams were found to have a bio-based content of 35 percent and 21 percent for conventional and viscoelastic foam respectively, the statement said.
Wansern's palm oil-based viscoelastic pillows and mattresses have received a positive reaction from the public during a number of roadshows the company has attended, Wansern said, adding that it has also sold its bio polyol to a number of polyurethane manufacturers locally and overseas.
"To the best of our knowledge, we believe that Wansern is now the first company in the world who has the technology to produce own palm oil-based polyol for the production of polyurethane slabstock foam," for high-end PU products such as visoelastic pillows, the company said.
The company said it is currently working with the Malaysian Palm Oil Board in R&D. (RD)
