Ostfilden, Germany – Two flame-retardant polyurethane potting compounds produced by Wevo have gained high Relative Temperature Index (RTI) approvals from Underwriters Laboratories.
The company said its Wevopur 60416 FL potting material has been certified with an RTI of 160°C. It also has a thermal conductivity of 1.6W/mK. This combination of properties makes it suitable for use at high ambient temperatures where heat needs to be removed from stressed components. Suitable applications for the material could be in electric motors and inductive components, such as choke or transformers in electrical applications.
Wevo also said its Wevopur 403 FL material has a certified RTI of 155°C, or Class F. Standard PU potting compounds are usually Class B certified, with temperature resistance of 130°C.
Both of the materials were tested for a year at elevated temperatures, Wevo said, and the certification shows they are suitable for extended use at high temperatures in a number of electrical applications.
