Ludwigshafen, Germany-BASF has been named 'best supplier' by Chinese customer, Yutian Group Co. Ltd of Shanghai, according to a 10 May statement from BASF.
The German chemicals group has been supplying several intermediates used to make polyurethane products to Yutian since the mid-1990s, BASF said.
As well as butanediol (BDO) BASF has supplied dimethylformamide (DMF) and polytetrahydrofuran (PTHF) to Yutian, which is one of China's largest producers of shoe soles and synthetic leather made of polyurethane. Yutian has been expanding production of this range to meet the growing needs of the global markets, BASF said.
Yutian was set up in 1995, and since then has set up a strategic country-wide network of plants in the Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian, Sichuan, Guangdong and Shandong areas. Its products cover PU resins (for shoe soles and leather), thermoplastic PUs and polyols. In 2006, Yutian Group's sales were over RMB 3000 million ($390 million).
The group is one of the largest PU resin producers in China as well as globally, with a capacity of 200 kilotonnes per annum of leather paste and 100 ktpa of shoe sole resin, according to BASF. In 2006, Yutian's share of the polyurethane industry in China was around 24 percent, the German group added.
Steadily expanding cooperation between the two companies in recent years has seen both achieving annual growth rates in this sector of about 50 percent, according to BASF.
