Zhangzhou, Fujian – Korean mattress and bed products maker Zinus is considering building a 3m PU foam mattress plant in Zhangzhou.
This is the company’s second Chinese location. It already has a site in nearby Xiamen.
Phase one of the new site will produce 500,000 unit/year metal bed frames, and passed its environmental inspection by local authorities in January.
Phase two includes four additional plant buildings. The final phase includes one continuous water-blown foaming line with 3m unit/year capacity for foam mattresses. In addition, it includes a 1.5m unit/year for other bed products such as pillows and cushions.
However, the company has not committed to a start date for phases two and three, the subsidiary Zinus (Fujian) Furniture told UTECH-polyurethane.com. It did confirm, though, that when started, phase two was scheduled to last for 21 months and phase 3 three months.
In total, Zinus expects to invest around CNY 1.03bn ($153m) in the plant, which will cover about 232,000m2.
The new plant will create 1,500 new jobs when fully on stream, according to the project’s environmental impact report.
The Xiamen site supplies Wal-Mart; it also sells own-label products such as Keetsa, Ortho Therapy and Priage.
