Shanghai, China - Unbreakable lenses made of polyurethane are now finding use in fashion and sports glasses, according to PPG Industries, which launched its NXT sunlenses into the Chinese market at an Optical Products Seminar in Shanghai recently.
According to PPG, the NXT lenses use patented unbreakable polyurethane optical polymers, which were first developed for military personnel, but can now be exploited in fashion frame designs.
Now customers can use NXT prescription lenses, "even in complex sport frame configurations," said PPG Optical Materials Asia business development manager Vivian Waters, in a 9 July company statement. "Customers in both sports and fashion sectors have embraced the lenses' unique combination of strengths - light weight, strength and excellent visual acuity."
Waters said NXT lenses are setting the standard for high-end luxury eyewear, enhancing appearance and vision with protection and optical quality unmatched by other types. Leading eyewear brands such as De Rigo, Robert La Roche, Allison and Polaris use NXT lenses, PPG said.
NXT sunlenses are also becoming popular in both professional and recreational sports, with supplier Rudy Project using them in semi-rimless sport styles. "NXT lenses offer cutting-edge technology for the protection of vision and increased comfort to meet any top athlete's demands," Waters said.
