Perstorp, Sweden -- A joint venture for the worldwide manufacture and sale of isocyanate products for the polyurethane industry between speciality chemicals company Perstorp and PTT Global Chemical was signed in Grenoble, France, 22 Dec 2011.
The joint venture, dedicated to the manufacturing and sales of the aromatic isocyanate TDI (toluene diisocyanate) and the aliphatic types IPDI and HDI (isophorone and hexamethylene diisocyanate) and derivatives), includes the former Perstorp Business Group "Coating Additives."
This has manufacturing sites at Pont-de-Claix in France and Freeport in the US.
As previously announced, Thai group PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) will hold 51 percent of the joint venture and Perstorp 49 percent.
News reports from Thailand have indicated that PTT GC may be interested in using Perstorp's technology to make TDI in South East Asia, specifically in Thailand, to supply demand from flexible foamers and other customers in the region, which currently has to import the product.
