CORRECTION: Fresche developed this product and R2 is the EU distributor
Hedensted, Denmark -- The R2 Group and Fresche Bioscience have developed a permanent antimicrobial protection system which they say bonds into the PU backbone of foam products.
The innovation is described as a “completely unique biocidal product for textile and polyurethane foam” in an R2 Group press release.
It has a green profile and performs well in tests for bacteria, mould and dust mites, said R2 Group.
Freshce Bioscience, headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, makes foam protection compounds. The company said they are fully compatible with conventional urethane chemistry.
Fresche said: “During foam manufacture, Fresche is injected with the polyol that disperses perfectly and evenly throughout the foam.”
The firm’s technology “forms a covalent bond to the foam substrate to deliver long-term persistent microbial control and protection for the service life of the foam product,” it added.
When bound to the substrate, Fresche foam protection will not leach or deplete and therefore lasts the service life of the foam product. Fresche foam protection can be used in mattresses, furniture, industrial and healthcare PU products.
