Leverkusen, Germany — Covestro, formerly Bayer MaterialScience, has agreed to continue funding the Solar Impulse, the solar powered plane until 2018.
Covestro sponsors Solar Impulse to 2018
Covestro has been a project partner since 2010 and is its official technical partner. Covestro was responsible for the design and construction of the plane’s cockpit using polyurethane foam insulation.
Patrick Thomas, Covestro ceo, said “We are delighted to continue our support for this inspirational endeavour.”
Richard Northcote, chief sustainability officer said the additional funding “includes our role as one of the leading sponsors of the cross-America leg of the round the world journey, which will recommence in Spring 2016.”
Andre Borschberg, pilot and ceo of the Solar Impulse project, said: “The cockpit Covestro designed for Si2 [Solar Impulse 2] was comfortable and we are looking forward to getting back inside for the next leg.”
